Catholic Identity

Catholicism has a great living tradition. As we continue to mature as people and as a church, we look to the signs of the times and the tradition of our Faith to help us understand what it means to be a Catholic today. To be a Catholic expresses both an emotional and intellectual reality.  Many who have reflected on their Catholic past have smiled at “Late Nite Catechism” and “Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?”  One realized that you lived your faith and your culture was touched and at times transformed by that faith.  Fifty years ago a person dining in the restaurant often times could tell who was the Catholic on a Friday night by the fact that Mrs. Paul’s fish sticks appeared on the waiters serving tray.  We smile when we think of those days, yet we were identified as Catholics by that action.  What is it that identifies us as Catholics today?  How have we shaped our culture?  Do we have that same type of affection that was so evident in the communities of the past?   I hope that this page will help to identify some of our common points of celebration both emotionally and intellectually as Catholics.
