Prayer
Our willingness to acknowledge our awareness of God’s presence is the basis for prayer. It may be as simple as proclaiming His greatness or our dependency on God. It may be thanking Him for the goodness bestowed on us or others. It may be asking for mercy because we have sinned. It may be seeking God’s assistance for our various needs or reflecting upon a God who loves us. There
have been many individuals who have assisted us in prayer.
St. Francis of Assisi is well known for his Prayer of St. Francis (Lord,
make me an instrument of your peace …). The
great spiritual writers like John of the Cross and Theresa of Avila have given
insight into our relationship with God through their meditations.
Some modern spiritual writers, such as Henry Nouwen, have reflected on
the various aspects of living in the modern world and acknowledging God’s
presence. In this prayer page we
hope to provide some assistance and reflections by various spiritually
enlightened writers who admit God’s presence in the world.
Whether formal or informal, prayer enhances our relationship with God.
Reading and thinking about the words we use to express our hearts offers
a fertile ground for our faith to grow. It
is our hope that this page will always focus on our ultimate goal which is to be
with and for God.
